Before I left Manchester United, Ten Hag told me this - Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly, a defender for Manchester United, has shared what manager Erik ten Hag said to him before he departed Old Trafford.

Bailly departed Manchester United this summer to sign a loan deal with Marseille of the French Ligue 1.

The Ivory Coast international played just four times for Man United in the Premier League last year after being passed over by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

In addition, Bailly appeared to criticize Harry Maguire, who played frequently for Man United last season despite suffering in several games, as they prepare to play Tottenham Hotspur in their first Champions League match of the year on Wednesday.

In statements used by The Times, Bailly added, “The club should avoid favoring English players and give everyone an opportunity.”

“[The club] should promote competitiveness in the locker room rather than just watch out for a select few. I’ve always felt that the national player was given preference.

“At Chelsea or other significant Premier League clubs, that doesn’t occur. Some squad members assume they will start, which makes them a liability.

“Erik] Ten Hag has a lot of character, which is fortunate, and I hope he can alter that relationship.”

Erik Ten Hag and I first met in the locker room at the conclusion of the previous season when he was signing his contract, Bailly continued.

He told me he wanted me to stay since he was going to give everyone minutes while I was packing my things with the intention of leaving.

“I agreed to join United for their summer tour, and he kept his promise, but I don’t want to perform occasionally. I want to perform it each week to feel significant. I want to regain my self-assurance.
