BREAKING : Chelsea have informed Benfica they would pay €120m without players

After revealing the departure of Malo Gusto on Sunday, the Blues announced their seventh January signing. However, they are still trying to bolster their midfield.

One of their main objectives is Fernandez, who was a vital component of Argentina’s World Cup-winning campaign last month.

According to reports, Blues have made Benfica multiple offers for the 22-year-old, but the Portuguese club is determined that it must be given the full €120 million (£105 million) release clause for the player.

Report: Benfica expect Chelsea to make new offer for Enzo Fernandez

SL Benfica’s Enzo Fernández observes the Liga.

According to Record, Chelsea is still after Fernandez and is anticipated to come back with an offer of €100 million (£87 million) plus players.

Such an offer may be even more valuable than Fernandez’s release clause, depending on the prices of the players Chelsea is apparently hoping to include in the deal.

Record claims that Benfica is not looking to offload such a crucial player in the middle of the campaign and has been attempting to increase the release clause by €30 million (£26 million).

Additionally, Fernandez has been guaranteed a payment of €2 million by club president Rui Costa if the Argentina international decides to remain at the club through the completion of the current campaign.
