BREAKING: Chelsea resume Mason Mount contract talks, Todd Boehly makes key request to Mount

According to the Evening Standard, Mason Mount and Todd Boehly have picked up their conversation on his future at Chelsea.

Negotiations to extend the 24-year-old’s contract, which expires in June 2024, came to a standstill because the Blues were unwilling to offer the midfielder the same £250,000 per week that they had given Reece James earlier in the year.

The length of the contract, image rights, and other provisions that seem unfavorable to Mount in comparison to those agreed to on earlier contracts under Roman Abramovich and some of Boehly’s own signings provide additional issues.

“Chelsea is also interested in permanently signing Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix on loan, which might cut down on Mount’s playing time.

“After his first efforts to give Mount a seven-year contract were denied, Boehly, who has been leading the negotiations since his involvement in the club’s purchase, has requested Mount to sign a new one- or two-year term.

Only giving Mount a one-year extension would give Chelsea the leverage they need to fend off Liverpool’s more aggressive advances.
