Chelsea to Pay £40m+ to secure transfer target to replace £96,000 per week star

Pau Torres must be acquired by Chelsea for close to £40 million, as Villarreal are content to lose the defender.

Recently, Torres flew to Qatar to compete for Spain in the World Cup. According to 90min, the Villarreal defender will be on display for many teams looking to sign a center-back in January, and his team is prepared to lose him during the winter transfer window.

According to the report, Torres has a £55 million release clause, but Villarreal is only expected to accept about £40 million. The 25-year-old is reportedly wanted by both Chelsea and Tottenham.

It would be wise for Chelsea to replace Thiago Silva long-term as he is displaying slight signs of age-related decline. Although Silva is by no means a bad player these days, he will eventually be unable to keep up with the pace of the Premier League.

Torres has the advantage of being a left-footed center-back, and managers prefer to have the balance of a left-sided player playing in their defense in the modern game.
