Frank Lampard reacts as Southgate dropped £325,000 per week Chelsea player from England squad

Frank Lampard, the interim manager of Chelsea, has responded to Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave Raheem Sterling off the Three Lions roster for their next Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Malta.

Along with Sterling and Chelsea teammates Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, the 25-man roster also omitted Ben White of Arsenal.

In response, Lampard, who previously referred to Sterling as a “top-level player,” expressed his optimism that Southgate will determine the appropriate course of action for the former Manchester City star.

At his pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Old Trafford, Lampard stated, “I don’t know the exact details of the conversation between Raheem and Gareth [Southgate] and where that is at all.”

“All I know is that Raheem is a very good player who has spent a lot of time playing for England. My personal memories of spending many years as an England player tell me that these games at the conclusion of the season can occasionally provide different obstacles than those faced by players who have played many games and a lot of minutes.

Therefore, if the two of them have a mutual chat, I am confident that they will come to the best decision possible—best for Raheem and England.
