“He has always been big influence on me” – Chelsea star names Real Madrid €365,000 per week star as his idol

Mateo Kovacic of Chelsea has confessed that Luka Modric of Real Madrid was his childhood hero.

Kovacic has played with Modric for the Croatian national team ever since he received his first senior cap in 2013. With Real Madrid, they were also teammates.

“My connection with all the players is excellent, particularly with Luka [Modric] , ” Kovacic said to Goal.

“When I was a kid, he was my hero, and when I moved to Madrid, we naturally bonded further, and now we’re friends. It’s incredible to have a buddy that is such a large guy and player. He has a significant impact on me.

When asked to name one specific piece of advice that Modric had given him, Kovacic said: “There were several, but if I had to choose one, [it] would be when you play well, don’t be too cocky, and when you’re not performing so well, don’t destroy yourself. Be assured. Keep your head up at all times and give it your all on the field.
