After leaving Manchester City after seven years, Sterling signed a £50 million transfer deal to Stamford Bridge.
The England international’s Chelsea tenure has gotten off to a slow start, with just five goals scored in 18 games in all competitions for Potter’s team.
Sterling, according to Richards, is still figuring out how to play for Potter.
Richards told BBC Sport, “I still think extremely highly of Raheem, but he looks a little lost.”
It appears as though he is a little disgruntled with Chelsea’s system and, tactically, is unsure of what they want him to accomplish.
“Raheem joined Chelsea, a prestigious club, and it appeared to be the best decision for him. We have all witnessed the turmoil that has ensued since they changed their manager.
Sterling is not the only one who needs to figure things out, said Richards. “The whole team is still discovering out how they play under Potter.
“Using him in various roles hasn’t been helpful. The ideal position for him on the pitch is high and wide, preferably on the left.
