He’s a generational talent – Gary Neville tells Southgate player that must start for England

Gary Neville, a former player for Manchester United, has said it will be a “big problem” if England manager Gareth Southgate cannot start Phil Foden for Manchester City at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Football experts and fans alike are debating who should be in Southgate’s 26-man squad as the World Cup event is now less than eight weeks away. England’s first game is against Iran on November 21.

In the right forward attacking position, there appears to be some disagreement between Foden and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka for the starting position in the England squad.

Neville, meanwhile, thinks Foden is a talent of a generation who ought to start for England in the World Cup.

Neville told Sky Sports, “I feel pretty strongly about the forward options.

I adore several of those guys, but I believe there is a serious issue if Phil Foden cannot be given a starting spot for our national team.

“He is a talent for a generation. In that regard, he is on a different level. Trent Alexander-Arnold doesn’t feel more incorrect than that in my opinion.

At the World Cup, England is in Group B with Iran, the United States, and Wales.
