Huge blow for Ten Hag as Man United’s shining star could be ruled out of season finale

Manchester United remains in the running for two more accolades, as they have progressed to the semifinals of the FA Cup and the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

Additionally, the Red Devils will endeavor to maintain their position in the Premier League’s top four to secure qualification for the upcoming Champions League season.

Following the latest update from the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Erik ten Hag may be compelled to do without one of his rising stars in May, a crucial month.

Argentina has been designated as the host nation for the U-20 World Cup. Bolavip reported that Indonesia was initially slated to host the competition, but geopolitical issues with Israel prompted the governing body to award the hosting rights to Argentina.

It is surprising to note that the La Albiceleste did not qualify for the flagship event via the South American U20 Championship but was reinstated owing to their status as hosts.

This could directly impact United’s ability to call on their breakout star Alejandro Garnacho, who is expected to be summoned by Argentina for the tournament, according to the outlet.

Since clubs are not obligated to release players for minor tournaments, the Reds did not send the young winger to the South American competition.

However, FIFA regulations stipulate that clubs must release players if they are called up by their respective countries for the World Cup, which could be a catastrophic blow for the 20-time English league champions.

Ten Hag has received a significant setback.

While the 18-year-old is currently recovering from an ankle injury, he is expected to return before the season’s end, and Ten Hag had likely considered him for the FA Cup and Europa League finals.

“The upcoming youth world cup may feature Garnacho as a member of Argentina’s squad.”

The report further stated that “it should also be noted that Garnacho is convalescing from an ankle injury, but as reported by Gastón Edul, he would attend the competition without difficulty.”

The U-20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023, while the Europa League final is set for May 31 and the FA Cup summit clash is set for June 3.
