“Huge mistakes every week” Ex-Man United star says he left club because of Maguire

Marcos Rojo, a former Manchester United defender, has acknowledged that he had a disagreement with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and left the team after Harry Maguire was selected to play in front of him.

After United spent a fortune to acquire Maguire from Leicester City, the current Boca Juniors star shared time on the field with him for a portion of the 2019–20 campaign.

Rojo started just one game in the Premier League for Solskjaer in 2019–20.

After living in England for seven years, the center defender quit United in 2021. Due to Solskjaer’s continuing usage of the ineffective Maguire, he was unable to sabotage his intentions.

Under the current United manager, Maguire has been reduced to a bit-part role with the addition of Erik ten Hag at the start of this season.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane would be Ten Hag’s first choice for a center-back tandem.

Even when Maguire is healthy and available, Ten Hag has occasionally started left-back Luke Shaw in the center of defense instead of United captain.

Maguire has fallen farther down the food chain as a result of Victor Lindelof’s resurgence and improved success at United.

Prior to the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, Ten Hag referred to Bruno Fernandes as “our captain” in a laudatory tribute to the Portuguese playmaker, compounding Maguire’s problems at United.

In a recent interview with TyC Sports, Rojo disclosed that he and Solskjaer had a falling out over the latter’s decision to keep using Maguire despite the Englishman’s expensive errors in defense.

Rojo stated, “In 2019, I was competing in the Europa League, but I was really pissed off at the Manchester manager [Solskjaer] .”

“He was putting Maguire [in the team] instead of me,” I said, “who, thank goodness, they finally took out of the starting lineup for Licha [Lisandro] Martinez.”

Rojo remarked, “One day I went to Solskjaer’s office to ask him to either let me go to the other club or start [me] .” However, he claimed that due to the sum of money they paid for Maguire, he felt compelled to play.

“He [Maguire] was already making huge mistakes, and I told Solskjaer: Son of a b—h, let me play because this guy makes huge errors every week.”

Only seven league games for the Red Devils have Maguire played in this year. According to speculations that he is destined for a summer exit with Ten Hag not convinced, United may finally wave goodbye to a player who has never truly found his feet at England’s biggest club.
