“I didn’t want to go there just for the sake of it” – Player explains why he didn’t join Chelsea this summer

RC Lens forward Elye Wahi recently discussed his unsuccessful attempts to secure moves to Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this summer.

Wahi, who had an impressive season with Montpellier, scoring 19 goals and contributing five assists in 33 matches, ultimately chose to join RC Lens for a reported fee of €30 million.

“I surprised myself. Initially, my primary goal was to stay in France, and I believe I made the right decision. At first, there were no French clubs, only Monaco. However, as time passed, Lens approached us, and we were able to come to an agreement,” Wahi explained to L’Equipe.

“I didn’t want to sign with Chelsea just for the sake of it. The situation with Frankfurt was closer to a deal than Chelsea’s. However, they had to wait for Randal Kolo Muani’s departure, and waiting for that to happen became too complicated,” added the Lens striker.
