“I like to play this position” Nkunku reveals his best position to play; Will Pochettino let him play here? Find out what he said

Chelsea’s recent signing, Christopher Nkunku, expressed his preference for playing as a center-forward after his team’s dominant 5-0 victory against Wrexham in a pre-season friendly. The Blues acquired Nkunku from RB Leipzig in a £53 million transfer, which was agreed upon in January, but he officially joined Chelsea this summer.

In the match against Wrexham, Nkunku was deployed as a center-forward and managed to score the team’s fourth goal in the 90th minute. Speaking after the game, he shared his delight at playing in that position, enjoying the freedom to move and receive the ball both at his feet and into space. The 25-year-old forward also emphasized the importance of building good relationships with his new teammates for the upcoming games.

During his time at RB Leipzig, Nkunku was an outstanding performer in the Bundesliga, scoring 70 goals and providing 56 assists in 172 matches across competitions for the German club. Now, the question remains whether he can make a similar impact at Chelsea.

Chelsea is currently undergoing pre-season preparations in the United States, aiming to improve squad harmony ahead of the upcoming season. After a challenging 2022-23 campaign that saw them finish 12th in the Premier League with four different managers, a strong pre-season is vital for new manager Mauricio Pochettino’s first term in charge. Nkunku spoke about the preparations, stating that the team is adapting well to the new environment and working hard to improve during the training sessions. Despite the hot weather, the team remains focused on their goals and aims to enhance overall fitness levels to avoid the injury issues faced last season.
