“I was disappointed to see you leave Emirates” – Ian Wrights tells ex-Arsenal star
Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for Aston Villa, has received a message from Arsenal legend Ian Wright that he was sorry to see him depart the Gunners in 2020.
Martinez spent 10 years working for Arsenal until permanently leaving in September 2020.
The World Cup champion from Argentina was unable to make a name for himself in the North London club’s first squad.
For Arsenal, the 30-year-old made 38 appearances across all competitions while recording 16 shutouts.
On the official Premier League YouTube channel, Wright told Martinez, “I can’t lie, I was disappointed to see you depart because, at that moment, you were magnificent.
He continued, “But Emi [Emiliano Martinez] when the manager says he’s my number one, it must be tough. When you left Arsenal, I remember sending you a mail and thinking that [Aston] Villa had acquired you for an absurdly low price.
