Is paying €121million for Enzo Fernandez a gamble? See Chelsea boss Graham Potter responds

Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, has urged Enzo Fernandez to succeed after his €121 million signing from Benfica, despite suggestions from detractors that the move is a gamble.

I completely understand why some could consider the signing to be a gamble, said Potter. Every transfer has a risk.

“You’ll be quoted a lot of money if you look at the market for midfield players, especially midfield guys who haven’t won the World Cup.

We have a player with a really strong personality. He was a midfielder for Argentina’s World Cup-winning team. He possesses qualities that allow him to compete in any league in the globe. He already demonstrated strong skills in the Champions League.

“We knew about him already since we followed him before the World Cup. Regarding the personality, we have faith. He’s still a young man and is entering our country, so it’s just like anything else.

You must adjust to the club. But we’ll assist him with that, and given his personality, you wouldn’t worry about him.

He fights well. I believe he is aware of his good fortune. He battles for the group. He is fearless, courageous, and open-minded. He wants to play football and get better.

“It’s not easy to have those qualities if you’re playing as the No. 6 for Argentina and you’re playing the major games he’s played in at his age, and with the talent he’s showed,” said the player.
