“It was overall below par for us” Graham Potter explains why Chelsea failed to beat Nottingham Forest

Chelsea fought against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest to earn a 1-1 draw.

Chelsea had the majority of the possession against Nottingham Forest, but they had trouble producing quality scoring opportunities.

Graham Potter, the Chelsea manager, said on BBC Match of the Day that Chelsea’s performance against Nottingham Forest was “generally below level.”

“You have to give Forest credit; they were good at what they did. When we had the upper hand, we didn’t perform well enough.

In order to effectively construct against Forest, you must be able to defend deeply and assault tight spots. We can make that better.

We struggled in the second half, and while we must accept the point, we are disappointed with the whole performance.

“Conceding the way we did is always upsetting, but as I watched the game, we weren’t in control at that moment anyhow.

“As much as the goal saddened me, it wasn’t the reason we lost points; the problem was with our whole performance. We must be sincere and work to get better.

“The replacements entered and supported us. We had more midfield control thanks to [Mateo] Kovacic, and Hakim [Ziyech] made some valuable contributions.

“Performances from the substitutes were good; [Conor] Gallagher was unfortunate with the opportunity so there were some positives but we’re upset,”
