JUST IN: Chelsea’s £80 million bid for the world-class talent has been turned down
Chelsea made a number of outrageous offers for players the previous summer after the new owners took over.
They wanted to get to work and try to acquire some of the best players in order to significantly improve the squad. They ultimately spent about £250 million on new players, though it may have been more.
Teams rejected other offers and suggestions as they searched for specific players for specific positions to improve the team.
They made an attempt to sign Josko Gvardiol, a defender for RB Leipzig. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also mentions in his Daily Briefing, which he only writes for CaughtOffside’s Substack, that Leipzig rejected a €80 million offer from Chelsea for Gvardiol in the summer.
The young defender is still a target for Chelsea, according to him, though it’s unclear whether they would make a fresh offer or not.
Chelsea has been interested since last summer, said Romano.
They asked Leipzig to sign him to an 80 million euro contract with add-ons for the 2023 season, but Leipzig refused.
I’ve been told Chelsea are still interested, but the competition is still open and nothing will occur at this time because he is entirely focused on the World Cup.
