Man United £120,000 per week star major doubt v Brighton as injury crisis worsens

On September 16, 2023, Manchester United is scheduled to face Brighton at Old Trafford in the Premier League. However, they may be without several key players following the international break.

According to The Telegraph, Erik ten Hag’s squad could be missing defender Lisandro Martinez for this upcoming match.

Due to injuries sustained in August, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and Raphael Varane are all expected to be unavailable for selection under the Dutch manager.

Antony, who started in United’s first four Premier League games but is currently dealing with allegations of abuse, is in Brazil and is not authorized to play for the team. It’s unlikely that Antony’s situation will be resolved this week, despite his determination to prove his innocence.

There is still uncertainty surrounding Martinez’s availability for the Brighton match, as per insider sources. He was substituted out of the 3-1 loss to Arsenal just before the international break due to an injury concern.

Martinez initially had concerns about an injury during his time with the national team. However, he was absent from Argentina’s matches against Bolivia and Ecuador, indicating a new issue with his right foot. Martinez had suffered a broken metatarsal in his right foot towards the end of the previous season, so Ten Hag hopes that this latest ailment isn’t too severe.

Harry Maguire replaced Martinez after 67 minutes at the Emirates Stadium, and it might have been fortuitous that he was unavailable. During the summer transfer window, there were strong rumors of Maguire moving to West Ham, but the deal ultimately fell through. With Victor Lindelof in the lineup, Maguire could receive a rare start as he competes for his place in the team.
