Man United agree £93.5million terms in fee and wages to secure signing

Recent reports from both England and Italy confirm that Manchester United and Atalanta have reached an agreement on Rasmus Hojlund’s transfer fee, and as a result, Erik ten Hag will soon have a new number nine for his team.

Securing a goal threat was a top priority for the Dutch coach during the summer transfer window, especially after Manchester United scored fewer league goals than seven other Premier League teams last season. Initially, they had hoped to sign Harry Kane, but Tottenham Hotspur’s resistance led them to explore other alternatives, eventually leading to negotiations with Atalanta for the 20-year-old striker.

According to media sources, Manchester United and Hojlund have agreed on a total deal worth £93.5 million, including salary and signing bonuses. While there were some initial hesitations about investing heavily in a player with limited experience in Europe’s top five leagues (87 senior games and one complete season), Manchester United decided to proceed and will pay an initial fee of £64 million with a possibility of up to £8 million in add-ons.

Regarding the personal terms of the agreement, Hojlund will receive €5 million per season, totaling $21.5 million over the next five years, significantly increasing his earnings (CorSera).

Despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United acted swiftly and finalized a contract with Atalanta after reaching an agreement with the Danish international on all personal terms. The deal will see him sign a five-year contract with a one-year option.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester United is now preparing for a medical examination for Hojlund, who performed impressively last season with 16 goals and 7 assists across all competitions in the 2022–23 season.

El Bilal Touré has been signed by Atalanta to be his replacement, indicating the imminent departure of Hojlund from the Italian club. This was further highlighted when he was not given any playing time in Atalanta’s recent preseason friendly against Bournemouth, as selected by coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
