Man United has been urged to re-sign attacker ahead of contract expiry

Former defender Danny Simpson has encouraged the club to consider bringing Wilfried Zaha back this summer.

Manchester United have been urged to bring Wilfried Zaha back to Old Trafford as the end of his contract draws. The 30-year-old departed the Red Devils permanently eight years ago.

Zaha had spent most of his career at Crystal Palace until United scooped him up for £10 million in 2013. After a loan stint with the Eagles, the attacker made his Premier League debut later that year but failed to score a single goal for United and quickly found himself back at Selhurst Park.

The Ivory Coast international has since become Palace’s key man and is having another fantastic year under Patrick Vieira, scored six goals and contributing two assists this term. With Zaha’s contract coming to an end in the summer, the 30-year-old is looking more likely to depart the club for a second time.

Despite his dismal tenure at United, former defender Danny Simpson has encouraged the club to consider bringing Zaha back this summer. Speaking to Stadium Astro, Simpson said: “He can go anywhere he wants, particularly on a free contract. I believe Wilf [Zaha] performs better when he is the primary guy.

“He came to Man Utd. I know he was a lot younger, but if he goes to another top-four or top-six squad, then he’s not going to be the main guy, so it will be fascinating to see where he goes. I believe someone like Liverpool could do with him at the moment because it’s not happening for them.

“I would bring him back here [Old Trafford] . You have Marcus Rashford as a number nine and Wilfried on the left. That’s considerable firepower as well.”
