Man United in the race to make move for £50m “baller” just imagine him and Mainoo

Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, is looking to strengthen his midfield further after signing Mason Mount, and the club is reportedly still in the race to sign Southampton’s promising talent, Romeo Lavia.

According to Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones, Manchester United, along with Liverpool and Chelsea, is among the clubs interested in securing the services of the 19-year-old Belgian midfielder. Southampton is preparing for what could be a significant week regarding Lavia’s future, with interest from multiple clubs.

The report indicates that Manchester United, along with an undisclosed foreign club, are the “surprise elements” vying for a deal to sign Lavia, who was a former Manchester City youth player. However, Manchester United may need to sell players before making any moves due to financial considerations.

While another target, Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina, is seen as a more affordable option with an asking price of around £25 million, Lavia’s value is estimated to be closer to £50 million due to his impressive performances in just one season at St. Mary’s.

Regarding Manchester United’s midfield, the addition of Lavia could potentially impact Kobbie Mainoo, another promising young talent at the club. Mainoo had displayed promise during the preseason tour, but an injury will sideline him for the early part of the new season. The arrival of Lavia might limit Mainoo’s playing time initially, but there’s potential for both to be a long-term midfield duo for Ten Hag’s team.

Lavia primarily operates as a defensive midfielder, which could allow Ten Hag to utilize Mainoo’s versatility in a more advanced role. Mainoo has shown the ability to play in different positions and tactical systems, earning praise from youth coach Travis Binnion for his football intelligence and adaptability.

Lavia has received high praise for his outstanding performances, much like Mainoo, who is considered an exceptional prospect. During the 2022-23 season, Lavia started 26 league games for Southampton, demonstrating his defensive expertise with an impressive average of 3.2 tackles and interceptions per game.

If Manchester United can secure a deal for Lavia, Ten Hag would have a talented young midfield duo in Lavia and Mainoo at his disposal. With their potential and abilities, they could become a foundation for Manchester United’s starting XI for many years to come. The club’s fans would also relish the opportunity to secure his signature ahead of their rivals.
