Manchester United reportedly made an offer to Atalanta for forward Rasmus Hojlund, but the Italian club turned it down. There were discussions of a potential deal that would involve both cash and a player going to Atalanta. However, the club rejected the proposal, as they preferred a cash-only deal and valued Hojlund at £85.5 million, a figure deemed excessive by United.

It seems that Manchester United, following their acquisition of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, is looking to further strengthen their squad under manager Erik ten Hag. The club may need to sell players to accommodate their estimated £100 million budget for this summer’s transfers, with up to 13 players potentially leaving the team.

In addition to their interest in Hojlund, Manchester United is said to have reached a verbal agreement with goalkeeper Andre Onana, who is considered a top target after the departure of David de Gea. The transfer is reportedly valued at around £47 million.

Hojlund, a 20-year-old Danish international and self-proclaimed passionate Manchester United supporter, is rumored to have also agreed to join the Red Devils, having previously expressed his admiration for the club. However, negotiations with Atalanta have proven difficult as the Italian club is holding out for a cash-only payment.

Hojlund had an impressive debut season with Atalanta, recording 14 assists in 34 games. His performances led to a surge in his market value to €45 million according to Transfermarkt. He has been compared to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and has received praise for his speed and technical abilities from Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

While Hojlund’s potential move to Manchester United could provide the attacking prowess they seek in the short and long term, Atalanta’s insistence on a cash payment makes the deal challenging.
