Man Utd star attempted to score cheeky goal vs Newcastle
Before putting the ball into the unprotected net, the Portuguese superstar snatched the ball away from Newcastle’s goalkeeper.
Pope had a free kick available for Newcastle, but Ronaldo insisted that he had already taken it. The goal was disallowed by the official, Craig Pawson, who also sent Man Utd’s number 7 a yellow card.
Was Pawson correct to rule against Ronaldo’s goal?
Technically, the ball was live and in play if Pope touched it. Ronaldo and his teammates continued to play because they were certain that Pope had actually touched the ball.
However, the referee took Pope’s side and disallowed Ronaldo’s sly goal.
