Marcus Rashford of Manchester United has claimed that a “untimely injury” was the reason he was not selected for head coach Gareth Southgate’s England side for upcoming Nations League matches against Germany and Italy.
Rashford was back in the running for England after missing out on the previous two selections thanks to a strong start to the season at Manchester United.
Before Rashford’s omission was confirmed on Thursday when Southgate unveiled his 28-man team, it was reported on Wednesday night that England doctors were performing hurried checks on his fitness with reference to a muscular problem.
Rashford confirmed on Thursday that he would not be playing in England’s next matches against Italy and Germany as a result of his absence from the squad before assuring England supporters that his ambition to play for the Three Lions has not changed.
“Good luck to the guys at ManUtd later today. Every player wants to represent their nation when they play for @England, and I’m no different!
Rashford wrote, “Unfortunately, I’ve sustained an unfortunate injury. I’m not yet ready.”
