Manchester United in ‘concrete’ talks to sign defender – Club want ‘around €40m’, ETH ‘enthusiastic’

Manchester United may need to shell out €40m if they are to secure the services of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen during the upcoming transfer window. This information has been reported by Marlon Irlbacher, a journalist for Sky Germany, who is of the view that it is unlikely that the German club will be able to retain the services of the full-back.

Frimpong has been in sparkling form for Leverkusen this season, with a remarkable tally of eight goals and five assists in 26 league appearances, despite primarily playing as a right-back.

This has led to a host of admirers, including Manchester United, who are in search of a new first-choice player in that position. The Red Devils are now pushing to secure the Dutchman’s signature and reportedly, talks have already been held with his representatives about a potential move.

According to reports, these talks have been extremely positive, leading to speculation that he could be on his way to Old Trafford in the near future. Sky Germany has also noted that United’s interest in Frimpong has been present for quite some time, and his agent has been exploring the possibility of a summer move.

Manchester United is a “very interesting option” for the defender, and the club’s coach, Erik ten Hag, is said to be “enthusiastic” about a potential deal. United themselves are reportedly “keen to sign” Frimpong, leading to “concrete” talks about a move, despite the fact that the player is contracted to Leverkusen until 2025.

Nevertheless, Irlbacher believes that a transfer is likely to take place, and that Leverkusen will demand around €40m for their prized asset. “I can well imagine that Leverkusen will demand around 40 million euros,” he said. “I don’t think that Leverkusen can keep him. I hear that the bosses would also sell him for a corresponding price. With the Brazilian Arthur already signed his potential successor at the Werkself at the weekend.”
