Manchester United move early to secure €100m+ signing – Attempts started ‘few weeks ago’
We were taken aback by several claims about Manchester United’s pursuit of Gonçalo Ramos as we read the Portuguese media today.
Newspaper Record publishes an article on Thursday about the clubs that will be attending the Eagles vs. Porto game at the Estádio da Luz, noting that numerous teams are also interested in Antonio Silva and the striker for the national team.
The publication claims that Ramos is “respected” by Manchester United and that the Red Devils “even tried to secure the player” for the upcoming summer but Benfica rejected their offer.
Regrettably, Record stops there, offering no further explanation of how that move came about.
We now question whether the Red Devils made a genuine offer for the center-forward or if they were only progressing in negotiations to secure a favorable position to sign him in the summer.
In any case, Benfica, who have the player protected by a €120m release clause, prevented that. Record continues to note that clubs like Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Real Madrid are also considering signing him.
Ramos has been associated with Manchester United for a while, but there have never been any rumors of a bid this year.
The striker has a stellar season record for the Eagles with 25 goals and 10 assists.
