According to the incredibly reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea has big plans for the conclusion of the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports following Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Real Madrid, Ornstein identified a number of players who are likely to be traded or released this summer, including Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Chelsea now has the largest roster in Europe after spending more than €600 million and adding 14 new players over the course of two transfer windows. But the results on the field have not been justified by their extravagant spending.
Chelsea has lost more games (16) than they have won (15), which is their worst start in over ten years. Given that they are now ranked 11th in the Premier League standings, the Blues are almost guaranteed to be excluded from playing in Europe next season.
