Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday, earning the three points they so needed.

The Blues were in control the entire time and easily could have scored more goals, but had to settle for Kai Havertz’s header in the second half to secure the win.

Lewis Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka both delivered dangerous balls into the area in the first few minutes as Chelsea got off to a fast start. The Blues had the early advantage despite Graham Potter’s team having trouble finding space in the box.

Palace was the one who gave both sides their first significant scare. Kepa struggled to make a convincing save on Michael Olise’s lofted cross, but he made up for it with a wonderful reaction save to keep Tyrick Mitchell from scoring.

Soon after, Olise launched a tremendous shot that Kepa did well to deflect wide by getting in the way and getting to his top corner.

Thiago Silva, who won the ball no fewer than three times from a corner before firing a fizzing volley towards Vicente Guaita’s bottom corner, was not to be left out and required his own outstanding stop.

Chelsea was working behind the scenes to announce Mykhaylo Mudryk. Just a €100 million signing, nothing major.

At the halfway point, Havertz had a chance to break the score when Mason Mount’s beautiful cross hit the German’s head, but he shot high.

After Conor Gallagher’s cross fizzed across the area, Hall then missed from a tight angle. Guaita’s unnoticed flip brought the young player’s effort straight back across the goal.

As the first half came to a close, Kepa had to act swiftly to stop an outstanding Jeffrey Schlupp header, continuing the goalkeeper show that had been going on all game.

Wilfried Zaha’s thunderous effort was the first shot of the second half that Kepa stopped, but Guaita was unable to match it as Havertz headed in a cross from Ziyech shortly after the hour mark.

Pierre-Emerick Soon after, Havertz missed another header from a Mason Mount cross, and Aubameyang failed to convert a clear opportunity on goal. Aubameyang was stretching as he tried to get off a shot when it smacked into the advancing goalie.

Although Palace was sloppy and gave up an excessive number of free kicks, they came within inches of scoring a late equalizer when Cheick Doucoure’s long-range shot required an outstanding save from Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa to tip over the crossbar.
