“What a Hypocrite” – Bruno Fernandes slammed over comment against referee

Following a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and a subsequent 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Fernandes faced backlash for his contrasting statements on refereeing decisions.

During the Wolves match, a denied penalty incident involving goalkeeper Andre Onana fouling Sasa Kalajdzic sparked controversy. The referee and VAR missed the occurrence, leading to an apology from Professional Game Match Officials Limited’s Jon Moss to Wolves.

Fernandes initially commented, “It’s the way the referee sees it,” regarding the penalty denial for Wolves.

In the Tottenham game, Manchester United sought a penalty when a shot struck Cristian Romero’s hand in the penalty area. Fernandes expressed frustration and demanded an apology from Jon Moss, drawing criticism from Richard Keys for perceived inconsistency.

Keys, a BeIN Sports pundit, accused Fernandes of hypocrisy in his blog post, pointing out Fernandes’ shift in stance. He highlighted Fernandes’ previous remark about the referee’s perspective and deemed his demand for an apology for Manchester United akin to hypocrisy.

Keys also noted that a potential penalty for Tottenham, involving Lisandro Martinez and Romero, was overlooked.

In his commentary, Keys emphasized that while a penalty for Manchester United might have been warranted, Fernandes’ alteration in position from the Wolves match to the Tottenham match was contradictory and hypocritical.
