De Bruyne reacts to equalling Steven Gerrard’s record

Following the weekend in which he tied the Premier League assist record held by the late Steven Gerrard of Liverpool, Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne expressed his happiness at still being able to assist his side.

De Bruyne performed admirably in Manchester City’s weekend 3-0 victory over Wolves.

During the game, the Belgian international added two more assists.

The midfielder had two assists, giving him 92 overall in 217 Premier League games, the same total Steven Gerrard had in more than twice as many games.

De Bruyne now ranks seventh all-time, behind Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs, who has 162 goals.

At his post-game press conference, De Bruyne commented on the game, saying: “It is fantastic to support my team.

“I tried to give my team as many opportunities as I could, and if they score, I’ll get an assist,” he said. It all fits together, and I’m glad I can. Since I arrived here, I have been acting in the same way. It still continues.
