What on earth are you doing – Steve McManaman slams Liverpool star

Former Liverpool player Steve McManaman has criticized recent addition Darwin Nunez for making an unwarranted foul during the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Ajax at home in the Champions League on Tuesday.

In their second Group A match on Tuesday night at Anfield, Liverpool earned their first victory on the continent of Europe since the 2022–2023 season.

Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah each scored twice as Jurgen Klopp’s team defeated Ajax; Mohammed Kudus’ strike was not enough to earn a point for the guests.

Nunez, who relocated to Liverpool from Benfica this summer in a deal costing up to £85 million, also made an appearance as a substitute in the second half.

Minutes before the winning goal, the 23-year-old forward missed a fantastic opportunity to score and fouled Jurrien Timber by applying undue pressure to the center-back.

McManaman voiced his displeasure on BT Sport when Nunez fouled the Dutch defender in the final 10 minutes of the game.

What on earth is he doing that for? asked McManaman. I am aware of his desire to play the game, but he will not approach Timber. And he provides him with a chance to trip over.
